Iconic Setting

  • This 'Mountain West' vernacular has a heavy influence from the coastal homes of the northeast United States, where the residents called home for many years.


  • The residence is situated to optimize views of the iconic Mount Helena and the Helena Valley to the north.

360° Views

  • The upper level ‘folly’ office provides 360° views of the entire Helena area – a key design requirement from the client.


  • The home is oriented to provide stunning views of the Helena Valley from decks and living spaces with added views of Mount Helena from the kitchen. A hearth at the end of the vaulted living room provides warmth for the connected living and dining spaces.

Steep Site Opportunities

  • The small, steep site provided unique design opportunities. A large, drive-in garage is featured at the lower level, sunk back into the hill, with living space above.


  • A basement-level greenhouse absorbs the southern sun and a spacious kitchen area welcomes the morning sun from the east.
