A Presence in Billings

The LAASF is the first building for the Billings Readiness and Innovation Campus. This project sets the tone and aesthetic for the campus in hopes to integrate with the community and be a resource whilst increasing enlistment. This LAASF provides a crucial resource for coverage to Eastern Montana, Northern Wyoming and the Western Dakotas providing assistance and rescue services for the mountains or rivers and everything in between.

Future Expansion

Since the LAASF is the first building on the campus, it was planned and designed not only with future buildings in mind, but also for future connections to the airport, and evolving aircraft types that may populate the site giving the project flexibility to adapt to the National Guards ever changing needs and goals.

Sustainable Freedom

The project is designed to achieve a LEED Silver status, which is quite complicated given the large size of the hangar. New technologies and systems were utilized to pull heat from the hangar facade as well as the preconditioned spaces to warm up fresh air into HVAC systems. With goals of having government building be primarily electrically loaded, this building is setup to convert to future requirements of energy efficiency.
