Restoring a Historic Helena Residence Hall
The St. Charles Hall project consisted of the Interior renovation of a 5,200 s.f space within historic St. Charles Hall on the Carroll College campus. The demolition portion of this project included removal of 2 bathrooms, a single kitchen, and laundry space.
The renovation portion of this project included a new kitchen, new information technology and copy office, new community living hall director office, and a new student life space for the Carroll College student body.
Special consideration was given to keeping the history of the building and the space with a fresh open feel. With an electric fireplace, built in booths, and laptop bar along with all new finishes this project quickly transformed a space lacking function and identity to a gathering place for students.
SMA has enjoyed visiting campus to see this space buzzing with students studying, relaxing, and engaging with faculty.

With a vibrant commons and cafeteria adjoining the main entry, the school feels welcoming to students and the community, while a gym and stage holds other community events and performances. The school's entries are designed to activate the surrounding downtown and neighborhood areas.
